Latest Update on ESI contribution

The ESI contribution for the month of February can be filed and paid up to 15th May 2020 instead of earlier extended period of 15th April 2020.

In this post, we will show you the relief measures taken for employers on ESI contribution.

According to sources, the contribution period for the month of February has been extended to April and for the month of March it ha been extended to May.

No interest or penalty will be levied on establishments on such delay.

Also, one-time relaxation has been given to the employers who did not file ESI contribution from April 2019 to September 2019 within 42 days after end of the contribution period. The employers can file this contribution by 15th May 2020.

It is due to the critical pandemic situation of Coronavirus /COVID-19. This relaxation will not create any change for any existing employees working in companies and contributing to the ESI.

A registered employee under the ESI can enjoy the following benefits:

  • Medical, maternity, disability and dependent benefits as per the ESI Act, 1948.
  • Full medical care to a registered employee during his incapacity, restoration of his health and working capacity.
  • Financial assistance to compensate for the loss of wages during his leave because of sickness, maternity and employment injury and during the hospitalization in any ESI hospital.
